In NSW, not far northeast of Tocumwal, is lovely Berrigan. The town’s architecture looks frozen in the 1950s (or sometimes the 1890s) but don’t let that fool you. Berrigan has a modern outlook and is a quiet and relaxing stopover for a lazy afternoon or longer.
The local agricultural output is diverse, with rice and maize, vineyards and cherries, and dairy produce especially popular.
Wandering around town, there are plenty of interesting buildings to admire. If you can get hold of a walking tour map from the Berrigan and District Heritage Museum in town, it’ll add some useful context you your stroll. Apex Park, just off the main drag, is a nice, quiet place to lie in the sun and enjoy a picnic or a take-away pizza.
