A neat little town, and a perfect place to stretch your legs and grab a coffee and a cake is Moulamein, beside the Edward River.
Known as the oldest town in the Riverina, Moulamein is rich in history and tells the story of the early settlers, shearers, farmers, the meeting of the rivers and more. Most visitors are families escaping the big smoke and anglers, drawn by the town’s proximity to the Edward, Wakool and Niemur rivers, along with the Billabong Creek.
For a short break on your road trip, take a stroll along the Moulamein River Walk. As well as wildlife and fauna, this land holds great cultural significance for the Wamba Wamba traditional owners. On the walk, make sure you check out the Big Tree – perhaps the largest river redgum in Australia. It’s a real tree, not a fiberglass replica, and it has a circumference of 11 metres! The Big Tree is thought to be more than 300 years old.
