Numurkah feels like a different world. With one of the best climates Australia has to offer, this is a terrific little side-trip off the Murray River Road … especially if you like fresh produce and lots of birds.
Twitchers will be itching to hit the 100-hectare Kinnaird Wetlands. Walking and cycling trails, bird hides and picnic areas all make for a fun time spotting birds and relaxing in the sun.
Drive the back roads picking up almonds, cheeses, fruit and fresh bread for a picnic that goes above and beyond. If you prefer your food presented to you on a plate, there are heaps of bistros, cafes and restaurants on offer.
Like big things? Complete your gastronomic experience with a photo featuring the Big Strawberry, just up the road in Koonoomoo. You can add it to your Insta collection, alongside the giant Murray Cod (Tocumwal) and the giant Mallee root (which is actually a real giant Mallee root, in Tooleybuc). While you’re there it would only be polite to sample the strawberry wine, strawberry port, strawberry jams and more. Maybe buy something for your auntie for Christmas.
