About More Info

Located just 1.6 kilometres from the town centre, the 10 hectare reserve managed by Barham Landcare is open to visitors to appreciate the natural environment and the wonderful biodiversity at the site.

The site incorporates both a lighter soil sand-hill as well as a heavier clay floodplain. This diversity in the site allows a range of local plant species to be represented from a variety of landscapes.

The landscape diversity provides suitable habitat to over 125 species of plants that are endemic to the local region (within a 100 kilometre radius of Barham) as well as a range of mammals, reptiles, amphibians and birds. To date there have been over 130 bird species identified by local birdwatchers.

The reserve contains three walking tracks with interpretive signage about plants and animals found at the site with many plants numbered to aid in species identification.

Interpretive signage also includes information about how local indigenous ‘Barapa Barapa’ people used local natural resources for food, fibre, medicines and for cultural and spiritual purposes.

The facility contains a disabled toilet facility and there are many areas available for barbecues and picnics.
