When the time is right, plan a trip to the river for a fun and relaxing getaway with your closest friends. A weekend (or even longer) with the girls, or a blokes-only getaway; then North of the Murray is perfect. There’s plenty of adventures to be had – here are just a few ideas to get the ball rolling…
While there are lots of caravan parks and hotel and motel options, why not check into one of our region’s excellent self-contained properties? Corowa or Mulwala are a good place to start your accommodation search. Imagine arriving, settling in and stretching out by the water on a sunny pring afternoon. Just pure bliss.
For dinner after arrival, head down to Silks Cocktail Lounge at the Corowa RSL, or the Black Smith Provedore is Mulwala is the choice. Settle in for an easy dinner and kick off the weekend with a couple of well-deserved beverages.
Head into Corowa for a fresh-cooked café breakfast and fuel up on coffee before taking a walk around the historic town. Look out for buildings that played a role in Australian Federation on the Corowa History Trail and enjoy a bit of window shopping (or actual shopping!).
Tee off for 18 holes in the late morning sunshine at the majestic Corowa Golf Club, then head to Corowa Distilling Co to sample the chockies and amazing small-batch whiskies in the cool 100-year-old building.
In the afternoon head back to your accommodation for a well-earned rest, ready to freshen up for you next dinner date. From a simple pub meal with ample drinks in a vibrant beer garden to D’Amicos for a leisurely Italian meal accompanied by the best wines from the region, any choice is a good one. Ensure you leave time to finish the day with a riverside stroll as the stars fill the night skies.
After a lazy sleep in head further north for a long brunch in Howlong. The 1/2 Acre Coffee Lounge, Courthouse Hotel or the Howlong Country Bakery will have you spoil with choices.
Take the camera too: even novice photographers can nail that perfect shot of the local wild life, and the sun glimmering off the Murray River down by Memorial Park. Instagram will never know what hit it!
Before deciding whether you need to head back home, or want to stretch out your stay a little longer, consider the taking on the search for various artworks and sculptures scattered across the region. Perhaps return trip to take full advantage of the many adventures on offer along the Murray.
