Kayaking

Kayaking provides the opportunity to explore the many wetlands at a slower pace. The many waterways offer the perfect location for beginners to the more experienced.

Bring your canoe or kayak (or hire from local businesses) and make your way along the waters to Safe’s Lagoon on the Gunbower Island Canoe Trail on Gunbower Creek. A 5km canoe trail (an easy two-hour paddle with launching facilities) has been established through the wetland. See birds nesting in the hollows of standing dead trees. Hear their calls and see the myriad of creatures living among the reeds and waters. The route to the canoe trail is signposted through the forest.

Our comprehensive Kayak/Canoe brochure features trails and information on all of our wetlands and lakes, giving you several unique paddling options.

The brochure includes description of the various trails and highlights the many waterways suitable for paddling. A useful paddle safety guide is included along with a map to help you around the region.

If serious about paddling keep an eye out for the Black Swan kayak race event in March.
