About More Info

Mungabareena Reserve is an important cultural reserve that has significance to many Aboriginal people in this region. It's where Aboriginal people met to trade before continuing towards Mount Bogong to hunt for Bogong moths.

The area is a popular swimming and picnic area for locals and visitors.

The Water Works area, further upstream from Mungabareena, is also a popular spot for recreation on the Murray River at Albury.

There are many other recreational areas along the banks of the Murray and chances are you'll find your own pristine river beach to enjoy. Wildlife abounds from this life-giving water source - you could spot a platypus scrabbling for yabbies in the shallows near the riverbank, watch as wood ducks wade through the water, or see a rainbow bee-eater perform aerial feats in the hunt for its insect dinner! Picnic tables can be found dotted along the river's edge.
