Lake Boga

Lake Boga, just 15 minutes drive south of Swan Hill, is a well-loved holiday camping spot for fans of aquatic fun and the outdoors.

The lake itself is 3km across and is an oasis of activity known for its swimming and fishing spots, active trails, waterskiing, kayaking, SUP and boating of any kind, including yachting.

While the lake is popular all year round, it’s a magnet for sun lovers throughout summer. Locals and visitors are drawn to this glorious spot to paddle, splash, barbecue and camp.

Perhaps slip on the running shoes or venture out on a bike and take on the headwinds around Lake Boga – the concrete and gravel track is flat and highlights include the restored turtle lagoon, pelicans, ducks and other waterbirds.

The south-western quarter of the circular lake is where much of the action is centred. As well as the Lake Boga township, there’s a caravan park, boat ramps, lakeside cafe, shady picnic areas, and historical monuments.

The Lake Boga Story Wall, located around the southern end of the lake is one of six national symbols of reconciliation in Australia. The artist and designer of the story wall, Zhou Xiaoping, was able to incorporate the essence of the region, the land, the water, the people, depicting their cultures, histories and ways of working, onto this stunning hand-cut glass mosaic sculpture. Well worth a visit, as is the renowned Flying Boat Museum.

This impressive museum showcases Lake Boga’s vital role as a repair and service depot for flying boats during WWII. There are lots of interesting displays here, but the highlight is the beautifully restored Catalina flying boat from WWII.

The foreshore area near the boat ramp is also home to a popular twilight farmers’ market every Saturday afternoon from 4 pm from November to March.
