Murray River Road
Car driving along a dirt road surrounded by lush forests in the Greater Hume region

Nature

Think of the Murray - what’s on your mind? Probably a wide, gently flowing river with redgums on either side. And you’re right.

You’re also on the money if you see steep red cliffs, big-old wetlands with birds galore, wide-open plains stretching as far as the eye can see and lunar-like desert scenes.

From a trickle in the mountains until it empties into the sea, you won’t believe the life it breeds. Unique plants, iconic animals and unforgettable scenery will keep you company at every twist and turn. Sometimes on the Murray River Road you’ll be in nature from the comfort of your car but it’s better when you pull up on a beach somewhere, get the kayak or SUP out and paddle into the wild.

If you don’t wanna get wet there’s plenty of bike tracks and walking trails hugging the water’s edge where you can spot the roos or emus too. Just know there’s gonna be unavoidable moments when you just sit by the river or stand in bushlands and mother nature will wrap herself around you calming your soul.

Seriously, flick off your thongs, go bare-footed and connect to the country.
