Location

River Country mirrors the Murray River Council local government area, which covers 11,865 square kilometres, is home to approximately 11,500 residents and is located in the southern Riverina - 800km south of Sydney and 205km north of Melbourne.

The main population centres include Barham, Mathoura, Moama, Moulamein, Murray Downs, Tooleybuc and Wakool. Other communities include Bunnaloo, Goodnight, Koraleigh and Womboota. The area has a wealth of physical features including majestic sweeping plains; magnificent stands of Red Gum forests and is almost totally surrounded by the mighty Murray River and its tributaries.

By Road

The larger townships are easily accessible via main highways.

By Bus or Train

There are various public transport options both within and between each of the different townships across the region, including local and regional bus services, taxi operators and a regional train service.

Public Transport Victoria runs coach/train services between:

  • Echuca Moama - Bendigo and Melbourne
  • Barham - Bendigo and Melbourne
  • Swan Hill – Bendigo and Melbourne

There is also a coach service between Swan Hill and Tooleybuc, and a local service within Echuca Moama.

Transport NSW runs a coach service between:

  • Moama Deniliquin - Albury
  • Moama Deniliquin – Wagga Wagga
  • and onto Canberra, or Griffith and beyond.

A frequent train service runs between Albury and Sydney.
