On the corner of Melbourne Street and Havelock Street stands an OLD FIG TREE.
When this tree was planted no one knows (maybe early 1900s). Many residents of Mulwala have an attachment to this old tree, memories of their younger days of climbing, a meeting point for friends outside the then grocery shop (Savage family, McErvals etc)
Some years ago the then Corowa Shire wished to have the tree removed. The community of Mulwala caused an uproar and the tree got to hold its ground. Due to the hazard of the electrical wires this old tree has lost a lot of its beauty but its never lost the respect of Mulwala residents.
