Walking Trails

With Deniliquin being located on the edge of the Murray Valley Regional Park and situated on the banks of the beautiful Edward River, you’re sure to find beautiful walking trails.

Beach to Beach Walk

Start at McLean Beach and follow the path along the banks of the Edward River passing stately red gums and sandy beaches. Visit Deniliquin & District Historical Society, then continue on past the hospital, police station and medical centre to the 'Ute on a Pole'. Continue along the path under the National Bridge, then take a short diversion at the back of the Peppin Heritage Centre to see the Mosaic Ute and the Long Paddock sculpture called 'Shod'. Don't miss a visit to the centre which was the old Deniliquin Public School.

As you pass the sculptures you will come to a ramp which takes you to the Island Sanctuary. Wander through this tranquil setting and keep an eye out for the birds, kangaroos and other wildlife. The walking path continues at the back gate of the sanctuary where you will pass the first town water supply tower and the Memorial Park sporting grounds. Enter the Murray Valley Regional Park and follow the tracks around the river, enjoy the sandy beaches and wonder at this beautiful natural setting.

Stroll through the regional park

There are plenty of trails to explore in the Murray Valley National Park. Located a stone’s throw from Deniliquin, these trails wind through tranquil river red gum forest, near the Edward River, and a great place to stretch your legs.

Immerse yourself in forest sights and sounds as trees shift from river red gums to black box woodland. Red-rumped parrots, rosellas and galahs add their own splash of colour to the forest. If you hear rustling in the underbrush, look out for eastern grey kangaroos and goannas that also call this area home.

Billabong Loop Walk is a popular route within the park and is signposted to ensure you keep on track. Enter through Memorial Drive and follow the directional signage to the beginning of the Mountain Bike Trails, which is the same starting point for the loop walk.

Lagoons to River walking trail

Explore Deniliquin’s unique lagoon system on the 1.4km Lagoons to River trail, which curves through the centre of town. You’ll pass through gorgeous parkland including Waring Gardens, Scott’s Park, Blake Botanic Reserve, and Brown’s Park. The trails have signage along the way to keep you on track, show distances and highlight key attractions.

With lots of spots to stop for a shady break, and shops along the way for supplies, this is a lovely way to spend a couple of hours in town.
