Booroorban

It’s a town… and a pub!

Once a stop on the fabled Cobb and Co. run between Deniliquin and Hay, the Royal Mail Hotel is at the centre of life in the village of Booroorban. In fact, it’s the only commercial building in the village!

Situated in the middle of the vast, flat Hay Plains, Booroorban features a small camping ground and caravan park at the pub. Here you can enjoy a meal, a drink and a chat with the locals in the lovely peppercorn tree-shaded beer garden.

The main bar pays homage to the Headless Horseman – also commemorated in a sculpture out at the Black Swamp rest area – who was said to roam these parts in the 1850s, scaring anyone foolish enough to camp in the region.

But don’t let an old headless bloke put you off: as well as the camping ground, the area also features the Burraburoon Farm Stay experience, a working sheep station offering unique accommodation (converted train carriage, anyone?). The kids especially will love it!
