Once cleared woodland, is now extensively replanted with plants native to the area. It is now home for in excess of sixty species of native birds. A feature of Chinamans Island is a relatively large wetland with well developed aquatic vegetation. The wetland provides a home for many species of waterbird including rails, crakes and bitterns. The area is also home for species such as platypus, water rates and yellow-bellied water skinks. The reserve can be divided into several zones each supporting a different range of flora and fauna. Quiet contemplation or observation of birdlife or appreciation of views can be enjoyed from some seats located along the track.
A rotunda provides shade with picnic table and seats and is a lovely spot to meet friends for a picnic, read a book or simply observe birds and nature. Chinaman's Island Nature Track is always a fantastic photo op.
Dogs on leash are allowed on the Island with dog litter bags provided at each entry.
