About More Info

The Urana Aquatic Centre is a man-made lake developed on the original site of the town’s water supply reservoir perfect for water skiing, fishing, bird watching and just about any other water activity you can think of.

With the play equipment and five-kilometre round walking trail, there is plenty to do for the whole family.

With the NSW DPI regularly restocking the native fish in the Aquatic Centre there is always a supply of Murray Cod and Golden Perch to be caught.

The adjacent J&M Smith Flora and Fauna Reserve created in 1996 is an ideal spot for those interested in exploring the local flora and fauna with an abundance of native birds including a red-rumped parrot, brown treecreeper, striated pardalote, spiny-cheeked honeyeater, striped honeyeater, the regionally uncommon grey-crowned babbler and when the lake is flooded waterbirds flock to the area.

For native plant enthusiasts, the nature reserve supports a woodland of yellow box and white cypress pine, red gumtrees and over 70 recorded species of grasses and herbs. Following floods, several grasses and short-lived herbs such as weeping love grass, sneezeweed, sedge and yellow buttons were established on the lake bed.
