The gentle months of autumn are the perfect time of year to head North of the Murray, to pitch the tent, light a campfire by the water’s edge, and to slow life down.

It’s the season for welcoming cool, crisp mornings and glorious sun-kissed days on the Murray River and by the lake - and where time slows its pace, inviting you to linger just that little bit longer.

There is so much to touch, taste and feel north of the border, with water-based activities still very much on the agenda, perhaps a round or two of golf, or a spot of fishing on a quiet river bend. From the banks of the Murray to the plains of the northern country, this region promises a treasure trove of unforgettable moments - from bike and walking trails, and food and wine events, to our magnificent natural landscapes, big skies and wide-open countryside perfect for roaming wild and free.

The arrival of cooler autumn days makes this the best time of year to hit our walking and bike trails, particularly the newly established Corowa to Mulwala cycle trail. Suitable for all ages and all levels of riding fitness, this 43km family-friendly trail skirts the northern banks of the Murray River and Lake Mulwala, and is a sealed and flat track, ensuring enjoyment for all. On your journey you’ll be treated to front row viewing of native habitat, world class bird-breeding areas and of course, fresh country air. There are numerous opportunities for bushwalking, fishing and recreational boating at either end of the trail, as well as a smorgasbord of food and wine options to satisfy your hunger and thirst after some time in the saddle. Bike hire is available in both Corowa and Yarrawonga and don’t forget to download a copy of the trail map before you set off.
