Take flight

There’s no better way to view the snaking form of the Murray and the patchwork of vineyards and orchards than from high above. For a change in scenery, take off in a scenic plane from Mildura or the Mungo Lodge Airstrip and you can capture Mungo National Park in all it's glory.

From floodplains referred to as 'the Kakadu of the South' by ecologists to salt lakes of shimmering white and pink at Lake Tyrrell, and over iconic national parks, Murray Darling Scenic Flights have a number of scenic and charter flight options that take in the best of the region.

Slow down and drift over the Murray as it carves it's way through farmland around Corowa and the Rutherglen wine region with Blue Skies Ballooning. Romantic or otherwise, a hot air balloon at sunrise is one of those quintessential life experiences best shared with a glass of bubbles at a local winery.

Need more adrenalin? Buckle up and experience the thrill of gliding from Corowa or Tocumwal aerodromes, where perfect thermals create ideal conditions for unpowered flights. Former international commercial pilots flock here annually, and scenic glider flights and lessons are available. Albury Airport offers fixed-wing and helicopter flying lessons too.

For those that love aviation but love the ground even more, the Tocumwal Aviation Museum is home to a number of light aircraft and aviation inspired artworks and artifacts in a purpose built hangar and showcases the important war stories of the region. Lake Boga Flying Boat Museum is a memorial to those that worked on the flying boats during World War II and has a collection of wartime artifacts as well as a restored Catalina A24-30 flying boat.
